Minutes of Search Committee Meeting

Time: 11:00 AM October 20, 2009

Present: Drs. Graber, Iwata, & Neimeyer; Dr. Rowland was present for the charge to the committee.

The meeting convened at approximately 11:10 a.m. and ended at approximately 11:45 a.m. The Committee Chair’s summary of the principal topics discussed (not in exact order) follows:

  1. Dr. Rowland, the Psychology Department Chair, charged the committee with its task in accordance with University of Florida policies. He highlighted the importance of the task of hiring a lecturer who would be responsible for the General Psychology course and supervision of graduate students teaching this course.
  2. The committee reviewed UF procedures for beginning the search process; each member will complete the on-line tutorial and submit a copy of the certificate to the Chair for the search files.
  3. The committee reviewed an initial draft of the advertisement and discussed editing and creating a final ad for distribution.
  4. Details pertinent to broad dissemination of the ad, submission of applications, and initial timeline for the search were discussed. The ad will be posted via national organizations (APA Monitor, Chronicle of Higher Education) and broad (e.g., COGDOP) and targeted (e.g., APA Div 2 - Society for the Teaching of Psychology) listserves. The ad will also be distributed to colleagues at other institutions. The committee recognized that recruiting and encouraging applications from a diverse pool of candidates is important and identified methods for achieving this goal. Members agreed to maintain a list of all contacts they make and to submit this information to the chair for the search files.
  5. The committee will focus on organizational details for the remainder of the current semester and will establish a review and meeting schedule in January 2010.
