Psychology Department New Hires -- Getting Started!

When you begin employment with UF, there are things that you need to do to make sure things go smoothly with the start of your employment. Please note that some or all of these processes will require your UFID number, an eight-digit unique identifier that is created by the Department Office Manager once you have submitted your payroll sign-up information.

Payroll Sign-up

The first step in the hiring process is the completion of payroll sign-up forms. This must be done well in advance of your actual start date. If you haven’t already done so, you should contact the Department Office Manager at (352) 273-2124, to arrange to have the appropriate forms completed. You will need your social security card and your drivers’ license. Please note that your name will be entered into UF’s computer system exactly as it appears on your social security card. If you don’t have a social security card, you should go to the local Social Security Office to request a replacement card. They will give you a receipt which can be used in lieu of the permanent card for purposes of payroll signup, but you will need to provide a copy of the permanent card when you get it. When your payroll information gets processed into UF’s payroll system, an "assignment" will be created for you. This is sort of a file that identifies who you are, where you work, your job title, salary and demographic information. Your paycheck is generated based on this assignment.

Getting a GatorLink Email Account

If you haven’t already done so, you must establish a GatorLink email account. GatorLink is an individual's computer network identity at the University of Florida. Every applicant, student, faculty and staff member is expected to have a GatorLink username and password. Please go to http://www.gatorlink.ufl.edu for more information, to create a new account, or to modify an existing account.

UF ID Card

When your assignment has been processed into the payroll system, you can get a Gator One card (UF picture ID) at the ID office in the Reitz Union. Generally speaking, payroll appointments don't get processed into the payroll system until the pay period they become active. So, in other words, you'll probably be able to get your Gator One around the time you begin work. For more information on ID cards, please visit: http://www.bsd.ufl.edu/g1c/idcardservices.asp.

Parking on Campus

Please note that parking is somewhat difficult at UF. If your park your vehicle on campus during regular business hours, you must have the appropriate decal to park in a particular lot. For example, if you have a Commuter decal, you must park in a lot that is designated “Commuter.” If you do not follow these parking guidelines, you will almost certainly get a parking ticket. Please note that UF students, faculty, and employees can ride any RTS bus fare-free when they present a valid UF ID card. You may find that in many cases it is more convenient to utilize the free bus service or to utilize other forms of transportation than it is to drive a vehicle on campus.

For more information, call the Transportation and Parking Services Office at 392-8048, or visit their website at: http://www.parking.ufl.edu/pages/newintro.htm

Direct Deposit

All University of Florida employees are required to have direct deposit, the electronic deposit of your biweekly pay into an account of your choice. Setting up direct deposit requires the completion of a simple form, which can be accessed here at: http://fa.ufl.edu/forms/pdf/fa-ps-dda.pdf If you are using a checking account, you must attach to the form a voided check from the account you’ll be using. Once the form has been submitted to the University Payroll Office, it generally takes about three pay periods, or six weeks, for your pay to be direct deposited. In the meantime, you’ll get paper paychecks that can be picked up in Psychology’s main office on payday Friday. Messages will appear at the bottom of your paycheck to let you know when the next check will be direct deposited. Once direct deposit has begun, you will not receive a paper pay stub. Your pay stub can be printed from the ‘My Self-Service >Payroll and Compensation” section of your MYUFL menu.
