Have you
ever wondered how much your dog understands of what you say?
....Do
you wonder how your dog interprets your body language?
.....Have you ever seen an amazing
dog and thought "I wonder if my dog could do that?"
Here
at the University of Florida we are setting out to answer questions
about the behavior and abilities of domestic dogs. Domestic dogs
share a unique relationship with humans and through scientific
investigation we can gain a better understanding of the characteristics
and behaviors that make dogs mans best friend. We are interested
in many areas of canine behavior and cognition including:
-
Responsiveness to human gestures
-
Sensitivity to attentional state
-
Social behavior and development
-
Imitation and social learning
-
Modes of communication

Many of our research
participants are pet dogs that live in typical homes with their
owners. Others are wild canids residing in conservation and educational
facilities. Therefore, we do not use any invasive or unpleasant
methods to collect data. The dog's owners are often present during
testing and tell us that not only is having their dog in a study
rewarding, but fun as well!
We
are always looking for potential participants, so if you live
in or near Gainesville Florida and have a dog who might like to
participate please let us know!
.
NEW!
We are looking for dogs who get into or knock over indoor trash
cans....-----
