Cognitive Psychology
Fall 2005
On-Line Experiments in Cognition
There are now a large number of web sites that offer some sort of
research activity relevant to cognitive psychology - some perception,
some memory, some decision-making, etc - where the experiment is run
on-line, and data and feedback is provided.
(1) Using your browser, search for an appropriate site, by trying
phrases like "cognitive experiment" or "online cognitive research."
Explore some of
the sites. Pick one that seems interesting, and go through the
procedures. Get your data, and think about how well it tests,
and/or demonstrates, the
phenomenon being studied. (Note that some sites run the experiment, but
don't give you your data, e.g., PsychExperiments from Univ.
Mississippi).
(2) Hand in the On-Line Research Report
for each (one or two) extra credit
participation activity:
The deadline for submission to me is Thursday, December 15. You
can
bring it to the Psychology Building,
room 114, and have the staff put it in my mailbox. Alternatively, you
can send it to me or the TA via emal as an attachment.
