News, Thoughts and other items of note:

8/31 I have decided to post the Power Point slides, after the lectures on the material have been given in each section. This way, your ‘active listening’ during class will continue to be encouraged and yet you will have access to the materials to check your class (and text) notes against. See the overheads link above.

8/31 Several you have inquired about gaining research experience (for grad/med school applications, etc.). While it’s never too early to begin thinking about such things, it’s more important to do well in this course and get a strong understanding of the various subdisciplines within Psychology to get a sense of what really interests you. However, as part of thinking, and planning, you may want to work toward participation in the University Scholars Program, a competitive, research program—normally open to upper division students. It’s very prestigious and provides wonderful opportunities across a wide variety of disciplines. In the near term, you may want to check out the Psychology Department link and follow the tabs to the Undergraduate Program and the menu choices (including Research and Clinical Experience) to get a “lay of the land” regarding research opportunities in Psychology.
