Clinical / Resesarch Experience and Training
1992 - 1994: Research Assistant, Advanced Developmental Psychology Research Program,
University of California at Santa Cruz (Catherine Cooper and Margarita Azmitia, Faculty
Research Advisors). Examined home-school linkages in learning and educational success in
children and adolescents from low-income families. Responsibilities included: direct
observations in classroom and home settings, parent and child interviews,participation in
staff meetings, and training.
1995 - 1996: Mental Health Aide, Lifespan Care Management, Santa Cruz, CA. Provided
support for mental health clients to facilitate their placement in the community setting.
Responsibilities included: one-to-one client training in independent living skills and
alternative coping behaviors, data collection, and correspondence with county mental health
case coordinators.
1997: Research Assistant, Social Psychology Graduate Research Program, University of
California at Santa Cruz (Cam Leaper,Faculty Research Advisor). Served as research
assistant on a project investigating preschool children’s classroom and playground social
interactions. Responsibilities included: observation and coding data.
1997: Child Care Counselor, Odd-Fellow Rebekkah Children’s Home, Gilroy, CA. Provided
daily support and supervision for severely emotionally disturbed (SED) adolescent girls in a
residential and day treatment setting. Responsibilities included: implementation of behavior
intervention plans, crisis management, and support of the therapeutic milieu.
1997 - 2001: Program Manager, Bayside Centers, Capitola, CA (direct care, 1995-1997).
Supervised approximately 15 staff who provided 24-hour care for developmentally disabled
and mentally ill adults with challenging behaviors. Responsibilities included: writing and
implementing behavioral intervention plans and quarterly/annual reports, data collection,
staff training and supervision, budgeting of consumer funds, and ensuring compliance with
quality assurance regulations.
2001: Graduate Research Apprentice, California State University, Stanislaus. (Lin Myers,
Faculty Advisor). Examined development of reproductive body image in women.
Responsibilities included: training in qualitative research methodology, transcription of
audiocassette tape recordings, and reliability assessments.
2001: Behavior Therapist, Central Valley Autism Project, Modesto, CA (UCLA research
replication site). Provided intensive one-to-one training to children diagnosed with Autistic
Disorder. Responsibilities included: implementation of program plans in home and school
settings, data collection, and participation in weekly clinics.
2001 - 2004: Psychology Intern, Delta Regional Project, State of California Department of
Developmental Services, Stockton, CA (Robert Stillwell, Site Supervisor). Provided
behavioral consultative services to children and adults with developmental disabilities.
Responsibilities included: conducting client/ parent interviews, direct observations,
functional assessments, implementation of behavior intervention plans, data collection and
review, participation in weekly treatment team meetings, and conducting training seminars
for Adult Residential Facility (ARF) providers in the Central Valley region.
2002 - 2003: Research Assistant, Center for Direct Instruction, California State University,
Stanislaus (Jane S. Howard and Cathy Watkins, Faculty Advisors). Examined the effects of
Direct Instruction on the reading performance of children. Responsibilities included: data
entry and accuracy checks.
2002 - 2004: Behavioral Specialist, Early Intervention Program (Manteca Unified School
District, CA. Provided behavioral consultation to parents of preschool-aged children
identified as at-risk for school failure due to problem behavior. Responsibilities included:
parent interviews, direct observations of children in home and pre-school settings, functional
assessments, data collection and review, implementation of behavioral interventions, parent-
training, family support, and collaboration with the Early Intervention Team (which included
nursing and developmental specialists, teachers, and administrative personnel).
2004 - Present: Graduate Research Assistant, University of Florida (Brian A. Iwata,Faculty
Advisor). Participation in a multi-site clinical research program on disorders of learning
and behavior. Clinical cites include: Sidney Lanier School (05/05 – present), the University
of Florida Autism Program (01/05 – 06/06), and the Alachua County Association for
Retarded Citizens (08/04 – 05/05). Responsibilities include: conducting preference
assessments and functional analyses, implementing treatment programs, preparing and
implementing research protocols, data collection and analysis, staff training, praticum
student supervision, manuscript preparation.
2005 - 2006: Committee Member, Behavior Analysis Review Committee , Area 3, Alachua
County, FL. Responsibilities included: reviewing behavior analysis services provided by the
Alachua County ARC to ensure compliance with state regulations and standards of best
practice, monitoring behavior programs approved by the committee, data review, and
coordination of clinical services provided by the ARC.
