Research Interests:
- Andreas’ research focuses on attention and perception in the
human visual system. Much of it has centered on how people perceive
emotionally engaging media such as pictures, text, or movies. He is
particularly interested in how the visual brain changes - over the life
span and also as a consequence of short-term intervention - to optimize
processing of information that is relevant for the individual. He
studies these processes using a varity of measures from experimental,
social, and biological psychology, tapping aspects of social cognition
as well as perception-action relationships.
- Important research tools have been Electro- and
Magnetoencephalography in addition to functional neuroimaging,
peripheral physiological measures, and behavioral experiments. Emphasis
is on studies that inform models of temporal dynamics of attention and
perception. Basic and method-oriented research aims to improve existing
measures of such dynamics. Because of an increasing interest in
clinical dysfunctions of emotional perception and attention,
participants studied include individuals with disorders such as major
depression and anxiety.
