About Manuel Lopez
Manuel Lopez was born and raised in Miami Florida. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida with degrees in Psychology and Anthropology in the Spring of 2005. Manuel also worked full-time as a Desk Manager for the University of Florida Division of Housing and Residence Education during his undergraduate career. Since 2002, Manuel has worked with Dr. Carolyn M. Tucker, who is studying the effects of cultural sensitivity on low-income and ethnically diverse primary-care clinic patients. Under her mentorship, he conducts his own funded research project entitled, “Perceived Family Cohesion and Conflict, and Parents’ Health-Promoting Behavior as Factors in Hispanic Adolescents’ Health-Promoting Behavior”. In 2003 and 2004, Manuel volunteered at Sidney Lanier School in Gainesville, Florida where he assisted with the administration of behavioral therapies to students enrolled in a special education program as part of Dr. Brian Iwata’s Applied Behavior Analysis Laboratory.
Manuel has also volunteered in numerous educational settings and contributed to organizations, such as the University of Florida’s Office of Student Activities’ Reitz Union Board where he served as co-chair of the Special Events Committee to bring culturally diverse programming to the student body. Manuel is currently a doctoral student at the University of Florida, majoring in Counseling Psychology. He is continuing his work with Dr. Carolyn Tucker’s Behavioral Medicine Research Team as an Associate Director of Research.
